Stumptown AC Headed for Clash with Table-Topping Detroit City FC

Following a hard-earned road win against New Amsterdam FC, a momentum-fueled side from Stumptown AC is headed to the Motor City to face off with Detroit City FC for a crucial Saturday night game.

Stumptown AC enters the game with a record of 2-3-3 in tied for fourth place in the NISA standings, while Le Rouge remains undefeated atop the table at 6-1-0 after a midweek drubbing of Maryland Bobcats FC.

From the outside looking in, Detroit City appears to remain the goliath of NISA once again this season, winners of five in a row, but within the last week both Stumptown AC and DCFC earned identical 2-1 results against New Amsterdam in what should be a great matchup.

Stumptown features all the characteristics head coach Rod Underwood values, with players who can possess the ball for long periods of time, interchangeably working around the field in unison to move the ball into dangerous spots. Eight different players have factored into Stumptown’s score lines with either an assist or a goal, as depth and versatility are the key to their success.

Detroit owns the highest scoring offense in NISA in 2021, with 16 goals scored in seven games. Setting the pace for Le Rouge’s attack is the midfield combo of James Filerman and Maximiliano Rodriguez, who have tallied three goals apiece on the year. Stumptown will try to keep this dynamic duo at bay led by goalkeeper Kevin Gonzalez, who boasts a 1.00 goals-against-average, including a suburb 0.67 GAA over the last six games.

Asked about to Saturday’s match, Underwood stressed how “the key to our success will always be using our possession ability to create dangerous chances.” Underwood added that the Stumps “are focused on our game and how we can influence the flow of the game to make Detroit City adjust to us.”
