Stumptown Completes Road Trip with 1-0 Shutout of First Place DCFC

HAMTRAMCK, MI – In front of a raucous crowd of 3,969 fans at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, MI, the road warriors from Stumptown AC posted a 1-0 shutout of previous unbeaten Detroit City FC. The visitors handed the home side their first loss of the NISA Fall 2021 season, as Stumptown improves to 3-3-3, while DCFC drops to 6-1-1 on the year.

Stumptown battled to a hard fought victory this evening, playing a third game in eight days, including a pair of road games at New Amsterdam and Detroit City. Playing without their regular pairing of central defenders Franky Martinez and Nick Amponsah, Stumptown held the league’s most potent offense off the scoreboard to notch the victory.

Late in the second half, the two best scoring chances of the game were traded on nearly identical plays at each end of the field. Both DCFC and Stumptown rang free kicks off the goals posts from 25 yard distances, keeping the game deadlocked into the waning moments.

With just ten minutes to play in the second stanza, Stumptown’s Deshawon Nembhard scored the game-winning goal to earn Man-of-the-Match honors with a beautiful full volley finish at the back post on a set play corner kick, with Rhys Williams setting the table as the set-up man.

Kevin Gonzalez notched his third shutout of the season, making a handful of big saves down the stretch despite taking numerous hard knocks on collisions with the attacking effort from Le Rouge. Notably, Stumptown AC has played the most games in NISA so far this season, having completed both of their midweek contests, and will settle into a one-game-per-week routine from here through the end of the season in late November.

Stumptown returns to action next Saturday evening, September 25, when they play host to New Amsterdam FC at the Matthews Sportsplex in Matthews, NC. Visit https://stumptownac.com/tickets to buy tickets for the remaining home games this fall.
