Stumptown Heads to San Diego 1904 in Final West Coast Swing

MATTHEWS, NC – Stumptown AC is headed for its final west coast road trip of 2021, off to face San Diego 1904 FC on Saturday evening at Canyon Crest Academy Stadium. The 6pm PST kick-off will be the first of a two-game home and home series, with the two sides returning one week later at the Matthews SportsPlex.

After starting the NISA Fall 2021 season with a pair of home wins in early August, 1904 is winless in its last 11 matches, mustering just a single draw at Chattanooga FC in September. In a tale of two stories, Stumptown dropped its first two matches of the season, but has rolled along to win or tie 10 of the next 12 on its schedule.

Just five points out of second place, Stumptown is licking its chops looking at the matchup ahead. Tied for the league low number of goals scored with 11, the Stumps have a prime opportunity to add six points this week as well as find the back of the net against San Diego. 1904 has surrendered a league-high 27 goals-against in 13 games this fall and has not recorded a clean sheet in a single game.

When we last saw Stumptown AC take the pitch, they had their league leading six-game unbeaten streak snapped in a home loss to Detroit City FC, all but guaranteeing DCFC a repeat title in NISA league play. They will have a great opportunity to finish the season with momentum and challenge for a top-3 finish in the league, with their four remaining games against 1904 (2), Chicago House AC and Chattanooga FC, who combine to hold down the bottom three spots on the table.

Stumptown is 4-6-4 on the year, with a 2-4-1 record on the road, having not tasted defeat away from Matthews since a season-opening loss on August 7. After a cross-country flight and a day of training in southern California, the team will be ready to kick off the final month of NISA play when the whistle blows Saturday evening.
