SAN DIEGO, CA - Stumptown AC earned a single point for a 0-0 draw this evening on the road against San Diego 1904 FC at Canyon Crest Academy. The tie is the fourth in the last five matches for the road team and moves Stumptown to a season record of 4-7-4 with three games to play.
The first half ended scoreless after a wide open first 45 minutes that saw 1904 hit a post and Stumptown miss a sitter inside the 6-yard box. In a back-and-forth half, the action was free flowing with the Stumps controlling a majority of the possession in the middle of the field.
After the halftime break, the road side from North Carolina settled into long periods of ball control, methodically working its way into the final third while San Diego was reduced to chasing in pursuit.
Late in the second half, a flurry of emotions brought the two teams together, resulting in a red card shown to a 1904 player. Despite the man-advantage for five minutes of stoppage time, Stumptown couldn’t steal the win.
The two teams will travel nearly 2,400 miles this week to square off once again next Saturday night at the Matthews SportsPlex at 7pm on November 6. Stumptown is offering discount attendance opportunities for the match to all veterans of the armed services and their families and members of the Matthews Chamber of Commerce community.
