MATTHEWS, NC – For one final time in 2021, Stumptown AC will take to the manicured pitch at the Matthews SportsPlex in front of its supporters against regional rival Chattanooga FC tomorrow evening. Match kick off is set for 7pm, with the two teams playing a season ending showdown to bookend the 2021 NISA Fall schedule that started with this same matchup in August.
The late summer matchup saw Stumptown AC take a 27th minute lead on a goal by Luis Garcia Sosa and carry the 1-0 advantage into the final fifteen minutes of the game. Chattanooga leveled via Brett Jones in the 75th minute, before putting the game out of reach in the 81st minute on winner from Sean Hoffstatter and adding a penalty in the final moments for a 3-1 result.
With a single game left in the season, Chattanooga and Stumptown AC sit in a four-way deadlock at 20 points in the NISA Table, with less than three points separating fourth through ninth place. A best possible result for Stumptown AC is a win on Saturday, combined with Michigan Stars losing to Detroit City FC, Cal United downing Chicago House and a 1904 FC draw to New Amsterdam FC on Sunday.
That perfect storm of combinations would allow Stumptown to springboard over Chicago House, Michigan Stars, Chattanooga and New Amsterdam to finish the 2021 Fall NISA season in fourth place. It would also avenge one of the Stumps harshest results of the season, heading into the offseason on a high note.
