Ian McGrane made his pro debut on Sept. 22, making several great saves in Stumptown Athletic’s game vs. Miami FC. Originally from Pennsylvania, McGrane was a three-year letterwinner at Holy Redeemer High School, where he won Defensive Player of the Year honors and All-Conference recognition twice.

At the University of South Carolina, McGrane started in 10 games as a senior, had two shutouts and the third-highest save percentage in the league. He’s smart on and off the field – and was named to the 2018 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll, C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.

How old were you when you started playing soccer?

I was around five years old when I started playing. My parents introduced the sport to me, and I just took to it. I played more for fun until my junior year of high school, when I really started trying to better myself and dreamed of a pro career. That’s when I really started to get better, and I won Defensive Player of the Year and All-Conference recognition twice.

I then played at Monroe College, where the team won regional and district championships and made it to the national title game; then went to University of Wisconsin-Green Bay for a year before transferring to the University of South Carolina.

When I was at USC, I started in 10 games my senior year, had two shutouts and the third-highest save percentage in the league. I was also really dedicated to my studies, and was named to the 2018 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll, C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.

Soccer runs in my family – my brother, Lance also plays. He’s in high school, but we have similar goals.

When people talk about you as a player, what do you hope they say?

I hope it’s that I made them a better player, either by being a good teammate or stopping their shot.

Besides playing pro soccer, what would you like to do as a career?

I’d love to travel, if I could somehow make a good living off that!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like going on walks, or just enjoying the company of my friends and family.

Is there anything about you that would surprise people?

I used to race motocross!
