Marcus played high school soccer for Mt Hope High School in Bristol Rhode Island. He also represented FC Boston Bolts in the US Soccer Development Academy from 2009-2012. Later he attended the University of Rhode Island playing in the Atlantic 10 Conference eventually helping them reach an A10 Final in his junior year. After his junior year Marcus accepted a contract offer from the RI Oceaneers in the now defunct American Soccer League. He then went on to sign for Grythyttan IF in Sweden helping them to a league title and automatic promotion. Also had training stints in Iceland and Costa Rica.
