Vincent “Vinny” Tasca grew up outside Philadelphia, and he’s bringing his Philly background and college skills to the Charlotte area as a standout goalkeeper. Vinny received a scholarship to play for Wilmington University in Delaware, where he holds the school’s record for shutouts – an impressive 18. He also received All-American and All-East Regional honors, and was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Goalkeeper of the Year.
When did you start playing soccer?
I started playing soccer when I was nine. A friend played, so I started playing and joined a team, then played in the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer’s Olympic Development Program. In high school, I lettered two years; our team made it to the second round of districts, and I received Honorable Mention All-PAC 10 honors as a senior.
I received a scholarship to play soccer at Wilmington University in Delaware, where I majored in sports management. I really honed my skills in college, and was named a 2018 First Team All-American and was named to the First Team All-East Region by United Soccer Coaches. Also in 2018, I was the only goalkeeper named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) Men’s Soccer All-East Region Team, which is voted on by the region’s sports information directors. I’m also proud to say I was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Goalkeeper of the Year and twice earned All-CACC honors.
I wrapped up my college career with seven shutouts my senior year. I also hold Wilmington University’s all-time shutout record – 18.
For three seasons, I played for the Philadelphia Lone Star FC in the NPSL.
The coaching staff has a great reputation of winning as well as building players! After speaking with Mark, I felt like it would be a great opportunity to come to a new area that seems excited about this team and to start out my professional career!
Many of my goalkeeper coaches when I was younger inspired me to keep pushing on, as well as some teammates throughout my years at college. My head coach and goalkeeper coach at Wilmington University really inspired me and confirmed that I really could play at the next level.
Tim Howard. He shows great leadership and has a commanding presence on the field. His ability on the field, specifically shot stopping, has made him my favorite goalkeeper.
I want fans to know that I am always going to give my best effort for this team. I am extremely excited to represent this new team and will make our supporters proud.
I like to exercise, hang out with friends and family and play video games. I am a quieter person for the most part, but with my friends I tend to be louder and outgoing, which may surprise people.
